hey sec 3 prefects!

im ryan, blogging here for the first time. but sadly, i've depressing news for you.

as you all probably alr know.. the sec 3 camp is POSTPONED! ):
okay. dont cry though (hm.. that's if you are.)
CAUSE THE CAMP IS ONLY POSTPONED! yup. meaning it'll still happen, so no worries. (: the camp is most likely to be postponed to next weekend. We'll confirm with you guys once we confirm it yeah.

However, as most of you should have alr known, we need 3 things from you by monday, when school reopens.
1. Sec 3 camp consent form (which is way overdue)
2. Camp fund ($10.. or more if you want.)
3. Parent's letter (to show that your parents acknowledge and knows the camp is cancelled.)

those are the 3 things we need from you on monday, before school starts (arnd 12.20pm).
Pls go to the speaker's corner and submit these things.
To elaborate on the parent's letter thing, the rationale is to ensure your parents know that the pb camp is postponed and will not mistakenly think youre at camp on fri night. So please do not take it as a lame thing, cause your safety is of our utmost concern! :p
okay. if you dont get it, to put it in simpler words, it's just to make sure you dont RUN out when there's no camp. alright?

okayokay. that's all i have for you.. we'll update soon with news for the new date of the camp.

HA, something wonderful to share with you all. I've noticed that actually some prefects are taking their morning duty seriously. They even thought up of ' strategies' to catch those people that are breaking the school rules. I personally think that it's good that they all are taking pride in their duties. Other prefect should also take them as an example. They are the sec 3 prefects.
Others take them as an example. Thats all i wanna share with everyone on this blog.

Simply, i'm sure you guys have noticed the numbers of spammer that keep increasing.So, simply to put it. It's their choice. We can't stop them but however, it add ' life' to the blog right? so,i assume that they're just entertainers that wouldn't even worth a value. So relax =D keep your smile and get it going.
WELL DONE for these current few months althought it's just the first few months. Give your fellow prefect a pat on their shoulders and encourage each other on. THE moral is to maintain your friendship and obviously being a good prefect acknowledged by others. Whatever problems that you all encounters will be solved because you guys are GAN ENG SENG prefects that strive for perfection. THE road to success is the road itself, dun repeat those old mistake that you once make. As Mrs Tan had said, TAKE5 and HI5, conducting frequent self-reflections.

AND AND AND LASTLY, remember that there's a meeting on 14 FEB which is friendship day cum valentine. CHEER ON!

I guess it's time to update. Hope more prefects would frequent this blog. This post is dedicated to yang yu for playing a vital role and contributing significantly to the board. I would like to take this opportunity to properly thank her for the all the hard work and effort she had put in. Today, just this morning, I think it is my first time celebrating a birthday for a prefect as a prefect( hope u get what i mean :/ ) I have to admit, i was surprised indeed.

I am really pleased that the board feels more bonded now. The sec3s are working closely with the sec4s to come out with events, outings etc. All i can say is 'GANBATTE!!'(jiayou). Keep it the good work. Hope to see more of this spirit coming along the way. That is all, bye prefects!

hmmm.... now its time to rewind back your memory! haha!
Do you people still remember that we have a logo design for the board? its a long time back since we ask you guys to decide on the logo design u wanted. and this is the design the majority chosen. this is designed by sarah's group (sarah+benny) during the sec 3 camp. i only helped to create it using adobe illustrator. :)
This will be printed at the front of the t-shirt for your information. :D

I hope you guys understand how the exco's and I have been working together to make this Prefectorial board a Strong and bonded board. Yes we did ! But it's not only the work of the exco's itself but indeed from everyone of you . Yes , everyone of you people are important. So let's work together and bring this board further to where noone can ever imagine. I need the co-operation frm every single one of you. Please obey all school rules and do your best in everything, it's okay to fail once but try harder the next time. We're all in this together , if we are strong as one board. No one will ever dare to bring us down.
Remember prefects I cherish the moments when we had joy and tears together. Keep up the good work that all of you have been contributing to the board. Appreciate it alot ! :D

Hi all again, the deadline of the events for the GND is changed to 10 November. The date to visit the elderly homes is also changed to 19 November. It is no longer taking place during the camp so it is not compulsory anymore. If you like to volunteer to help out, please kindly inform any of the ex-co. Sorry if i got any of you confused over this. There will be another GND event during the camp.

Anyway, a prefect's recruitment interview has just taken place yesterday so there will be new faces joining in the prefect's camp. Be sure to welcome them with open arms.

Hi all. I am here to post about the Good Neighbour's Day on the last day of camp, 17th November. Kindly please spread the message to the rest that all of you going for the camp are to prepare something for the elderly that we will be visiting. The details are as follows:

1) Apex Day Rehabilitation Centre (abt 5 min walk from GESS)
-Cleaning ( bring rags) max. 10
-Entertainment - skit, dance, sing, or just simply attending to the elderly's needs and keep
them company.

2)Henderson Senior Citizens' Home (also abt 5 min from GESS)
- Cleaning ( bring rags) max. 10
-Entertainment - skit, dance, sing, or just simply attending to the elderly's needs and keep
them company.

Meet up in your groups soon and inform me via sms or email. I am sorry that it is a bit rush and you all are enjoying your holidays but be quick as the deadline falls on Thursday, 30 November. Of course, if there is any other things you would like to do, feel free to discuss with me. For example, doing a magic act? or playing games with them. It is all your choice. As you all should know, this is the first time the prefectorial board is participating in this event.

Guess who recommendated this to us? It is Mdm Zahara! Be sure to say to thank her the next time you see her. She was very happy and proud of the board since the changing over ceremony. I think she really enjoyed herself back then. So lets not disappoint her okay? I will also do my best to make this event a success. Bye for now.

Congrats fellow prefects for enduring(!?) throught this one year. I know that it had been tough throughtout the WHOLE year. Around this time of the year, i would like you guys to reflect on what have you all done throughtout this whole year, be it positive or negative. In whatever ways you guys can improve for the next upcoming year. so keep your smiles up! =D

However you guys did a great job today morning. It was a great surprise that i didn't expect to see. The photoframes had been nicely done and quite some teachers gave praise to it. so THUMBS up! GREAT JOB!

you guys survived it throught te camp and learnt various values like teamwork and confidence.

Through this camp,you all get to know each other better and ya, communication was there. On the first day...

i am sure that everyone would be "surprised" by our welcoming game xD

whereas you are blindfolded at first and then get your team members and find FJ for the ID bands.

I bet you will not find it in other camps xD

OK.first half of the first day was indeed boring as it is all the talks and stuff.

We got our lunch after which from the usual cater-er.

it had been really a hard time for you all.We started in october and it had been 2 months.

In a blink of eye...everything that we planned had been done.AND certainly it is enjoyable to have you guys as excom 08.We worked as a whole and sat in the small prefect room watching movies.From planning all the way to executing the plan,it had really been a very happy and enjoyable time.grats.WE SUCEEDED.May we bring the prefectorial board up high with our united-ness.AND LASTLY WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

It has been quite a while since this blog has been updated. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. Relief of Duties for the Senior Prefects of Year 2006 has been over. I guessed it has been great fun and I am sure many of you people enjoyed it and had great laughs? Shall hope for more of such events from the Gan Eng Seng School Prefectorial Board in time to come. We shall all await the great fun coming along! Executive Committee 2007 would like to take this opportunity to thank every single one of you who have taken time out to attend this function. For 16 June, there will be simple activities for you guys to play with us. After that, we will be preparing for our ROD performances. The year 1 prefects will be doing and item withe the year 2 prefects, while the year 3 and year 4 prefects will be having 2 performances. This day will be given to you guys as a preparation day, should any of you can not make it on this day, you have to practice with your fellow prefects in your own free time.

For 23 June, for the first half of the day (9am-12pm), it will also be practice time for the whole prefectorial board. The seniors will start coming to school from 12pm onwards.

Other criterias are welcome, but please inform Sendy what you guys want to do first. This post is to inform you guys of what is going to happen on both days, so that you guys can plan early. Please spread the message around to those who does not use the computer often. Thank you

The Student Leaders' Investiture is finally over! Congratulations to all of you who have received the recognition as Student Leaders. We are now officially the pioneer batch of student leaders of Gan Eng Seng School! Let's fulfill our roles as PREFECTS and lead the school to greater heights! ONWARD!

This time round we would officially release the link to the Gan Eng Seng School Prefects' Leadership Camp PHOTOS that everyone have been looking for. GAN ENG SENG SCHOOL PREFECTS' LEADERSHIP CAMP 2006!

We apologise for having taken so much time before updating the blog regarding the camp. Hope everyone is okay with it. Now it's time for us all to share and remember memories of the camp!

For many, Prefects' Camp had been a really fun event! Even though the number of prefects attending the camp was kinda disappointing, everyone looked on the bright side and continued with the camp. From the camp, I am sure everyone got to know one another better than before. In this camp, we have divided everyone there into FOUR different groups namely; Happy, Bashful, Sleepy & Sneezy. Do these names sound familiar to you? Yeah, they are the names of the Seven Dwarfs everyone know of. For this camp, we decided to use the Seven Dwarfs for the group names. This is so as the seven dwarfs have always been portrayed as a group of people whom could work hard together to achieve certain goals. Despite their difference in terms of character and style of working, they still made it well and worked well together as a team. We certainly hope we would be able to learn from them and also as a board, work as one, and bond as one for the new frontier ahead of us. If we could learn from the Seven Dwarfs, we would be able to reach greater heights in the near future as we understand one another fully and try as much as possible to work as one and contribute to the team, making sure that it pushes the team up. This would definitely reduce conflicts and disputes between people when we are tasked to do work as we would try as much as possible to understand one another’s differences and would not criticize the opposite party but rather learn from each other and work hard together as a team. We would then be able to achieve the great team spirit like the Seven Dwarfs and we would be sure that the Gan Eng Seng School Prefectorial Board would keep moving on, venturing new grounds! So that's the reason why the Seven Dwarfs have been selected as our group names this time round. With that, we shall continue talking about what happened during the camp!

Day 1 (22.11.06)
Before the camp, the facilitators were very nervous especially the camp chief. We started the camp by taking the attendance of the campers at 08 00. After that, the camp chief talked about the safety rules & objectives of the camp. Then we had our icebreakers. At the beginning, every group was so quiet but eventually everyone still managed to talk and the facilitators started to ask for some cheers. This time, all the groups began to ‘bomb’ each other. It was really wonderful to able to hear them CHEER!!! This should be the spirit of the prefects. Really! Keep it up people! After that, we attended a briefing conducted by the instructors from Faith Act on the Year One Orientation Camp. They were really cool. We played some games and all of us had so much fun that we laughed until we had stomach ache. Hohoho. After the briefing, we asked for more games form them and they wanted us to translate an English statement into different languages. It was really difficult. To those who were sabotaged to play the game. Three cheers to you! It really takes lots of courage to speak in front of so many people. Hehehe. It was lunchtime finally and we had packet food. The food was really nice. Here we should specially thank one of our seniors, Zarina Banu for having help us with our meals! THANKS. After lunch, there was a sharing done by our fellow prefects on the STC Leadership Training they attended. Cheryl, Angeline, Carmel and Dina shared with everyone about the various things they learnt and picked up during the camp. They were indeed inspiring and enriching! Thanks ladies! After that, we went on to play Station Games. Unfortunately, it rained cats and dogs. We were saddened initially because it would not be as fun as they were if it were to rain. But surprisingly, things did not turn out as bad. There were FIVE stations in total and these stations were DIFFICULT. However, the campers had shown their determination and they never gave up at all. That's the way PREFECTS should be! Everyone did very well and their scores were very close. As we have always said, it's not about winning, it's about the experience we gain and bring brought back home. Therefore, whether we win a not doesn't matter, it's the experience that truly matter. The games ended in the evening and we had our dinner. Had a yummy meal! Next, we had our treasure hunt! The campers were tasked to find the clues that the facilitators had ‘planted’. They had a hard time finding them as this was carried out at night. It was done in complete darkness. After our treasure hunt, we had night trail. Wow. This year we had our Night Trial played simple and in a different style. We could see that some of the campers were really scared. As the facilitators saw some of the campers breaking cold sweat, they didn’t have the heart to scare them already. It's still after all a test of courage! After night trail, the prefects had their own reflection time. Time for bed after that. Lights out!

Day 2 (23.11.06)

It all started off with Morning Exercise. Everyone was like warmed up before breakfast. For breakfast, everyone had bread with spread and a hot cup of milo. After which, we had a briefing done by Mr Kevin Kung regarding the Year One Admission Exercise. We were all informed as to what has to be done and manpower needed. After which, campers were given some time to plan for what they would want to perform for Camp Fire. After an hour, there were some Teambuilding Games. Everyone seriously enjoyed it, yeahs? It really takes lots of time for the campers to think about what has to be done so that the group is able to achieve a certain goal. At the same time, everyone has to co-operate working towards the goal or else it would be impossible to get things done. After which, it was lunch! By then, everyone would be very excited for what's coming up next! PB FOOTIE RUN . This year 'The Amazing Race' has been given a NEW name and a NEW outlook. Definitely, a NEW route! Those who participated would know what it means. As everyone was awaiting this time to come, it began raining. However, we decided to carry on with the event as it was slight drizzle and all the campers were equipped with ponchos, in case of emergency. Everyone was briefed about what is to be expected before setting off. When everyone was ready, the Camp Chief flagged them off and the race begun! There were in total eight different stations. It really takes lots of time to figure out where are the various stations. Just to keep everyone informed, the eight locations are namely; Old Republic Polytechnic site, the Canal next to GESS, Thailand Buddhist Temple, Mobil Bukit Merah, CHIJ St Theresa, SAFRA MFaber, Bukit Merah Library & Redhill MRT. It was indeed a race which demands determination, perseverance and teamwork! Every station, there would be various things to be done. We certainly hoped the campers enjoyed and picked up things along the way. We would also like to thank the various seniors and all facilitators for being station masters for the event. THANKS! After PB FOOTIE RUN, everyone was then energized and prepared for the Camp Fire. So there was barbeque for Camp Fire. Campers learnt how to set fire and BBQ food. It was a time for all groups to get together to talk and have food under the wonderful moonlight. After which, it was time for Camp Fire performance. The Year Ones & Twos prefects formed a group to perform. Shall not elaborate much about what is it about but we are sure they tried their best to what they actually have presented everyone within a limited amount of time. Still, they learnt about what they ought to do to attract attention, yeahs? After that, we had a LIVE performance by the Year Threes. I guessed that game was real fun and it made everyone real interested about it. Hope everyone enjoyed it and had fun, yeahs? Here we would like to specially thank all SENIORS who came down to join us. Hope you people had fun! Yeahs? Thanks for coming down! After which, it was time for reflection! Yeaps. Soon, it was LIGHTS OUT.

Day 3(24.11.2006)

It was the last day of camp! It all started with Morning Exercise. This time round, everyone did circuit running. It was something new for many and we just hope everyone enjoyed it and had fun. The spirit was really HIGH then. After that, it was breakfast which consists of bread and tuna spread and a hot cup of milo! After which, the campers did some Area Cleaning around the places they used. It lasted for around an hour before we moved on to several games. Everyone was too tired to play games but everyone just participated. Moreover, it was already the last day of camp? Yeahs? After the games, we had our last meal in the camp, LUNCH! It was fried rice. Yeahs, after which, we were all gathered in the AVA ROOM for the MOVIE, Akeela and the Bee. It was indeed an inspiring movie. Everyone was seriously watching the movie and we certainly hope everyone enjoyed and learnt something. The movie is basically about a precocious eleven-year-old girl, Akeelah Anderson, from south Los Angeles, is discovered to have a talent for words. In spite of the objections of her mother, Akeelah enters a spelling contest. At the end, she won and became the Spelling Bee and definitely, she learnt a lot along the way. After this wonderful movie, it was evaluation time! Everyone evaluated about the camp. Yeaps, evaluation & reflections indeed play a major role in the camp. It's time when everyone sits down and talk about what one another experienced, learnt and felt. Yeahs? After which, there was Prize Presentation. Congratulations to all winning recipients! For those whom didn't win anything, try harder the next camp! Yeahs?

Conclusion.

We certainly hope everyone enjoyed this camp and learnt something from it. These are values and experience that would never be forgotten and should always be kept it mind. Yeahs?

Please be reminded that this camp would be held on 22 November 2006 - 24 November 2006. Please report to the arena at 08 00 SHARP! NO LATECOMING IS EXPECTED.

For those who have yet to receive your Camp Packlist, here is the list:
1) $10 camp fund & consent forms.
2) 3 sets of clothing (1 set = 1 shirt+ 1 shorts)
*only school based shirts allowed: school PE shirt, class t-shirt, CCA tees
only GESS shorts, FBTs allowed
3) 1 set of unwanted, dark coloured clothing
4) 3 sets of undergarments
5) 1 pair of track pants
6) Sufficient white socks (strictly no ankle socks)
7) Toiletries: toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, shampoo, facial foam
8) 1 bath towel/ face towel
9) 1 pair of slippers/ sandals
10) Cutleries: fork, spoon, plates, cups
11) 1 sleeping mat/bag
12) Writing materials
13) 1.5 liters water bottle (COMPULSORY!)
14) Torchlight with extra batteries
15) 1 blindfold/bandana
16) 1 sweater/ windbreaker

Finally, the Final-Term Examinations are over. It's time now to post in this Blog before it dies? Yeahs? Alright people, hopefully, you people did well for Final-Term Examinations. Even if you did not fair well or did not do up to the expectations, never ever give up! Yeahs? Remember, always be persistent! NEVER SAY DIE! KEEP TRYING AS WE WOULD BELIEVE YOU WOULD SUCCEED ONE DAY! Just remember, everyone around you, including your family members, friends and more importantly, the Gan Eng Seng School Prefectorial Board would be behind you, supporting you! Just try harder the next time, yeahs? Alright, here's the latest updates! As October comes to an end in a few weeks time, OUR VERY OWN GAN ENG SENG SCHOOL PREFECTS' LEADERSHIP CAMP would be on the way! Be prepared to be informed of all these information as soon as possible! Hope this would prepare you people mentally! Yeahs! We would be camping together, it would be time to know one another better and hopefully we would all enrich and learn something from the camp! Yeahs? Just get ready! There would also be a meeting for the whole Prefectorial Board sooner or later these few Saturdays. Just listen to instructions from the seniors. You people would be updated sooner or later! In the meanwhile, just relax and have fun with the Post-Examinations Activities the school has planned for us!

we did really well, guys! the dedication works that we spent many days and nights making is a SUCCESS . our efforts are paid off . seriously thanks every single one who has contributed . it's TEAMWORK that really counts . remember TEAM . Together Everyone Achieve MORE . yes, that's what our mentality ought to be like so our prefectorial board could be moving a further step out . to somewhere, where we would want to venture . somewhere where we really want our prefectorial board to be . aspire to be . so seriously if we were to be in-charge of any other major events the next time, we hope we could see people moving in front volunteering your help without being asked . INITIATIVE . this is something that has been mentioned many times . we seriously hope that any other events would be as successful as the teachers' day! yeahs ? we should always have this positive thinking that the prefectorial board is not MINE . it is not YOURS . it is OURS . we are one who CONTROLS it . we are the one deciding its FATE . want it good ? want it bad ? we DECIDE . everyone has a part to play in making this board move up higher .
